DELAWARE — Beverly Ann Buckingham Hinds, age 90, passed away peacefully December 15, 2020 at the Ohio Living Sarah Moore senior community in Delaware, Ohio.
Bev lived a very full life as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother (Mimi), homemaker, and enjoyed a career as a Librarian at the Delaware County District Library. In addition to her passion for reading, she was a gourmet cook, and loved hosting special events and holidays for family and friends. She continually kept an immaculate house which was frequently decorated in the latest design. She truly was the "Hostess with the Mostess." She embraced traveling and although she was a big city girl, she inherited a desire for gardening from her Dad, and every place she lived was surrounded by beautiful flower gardens. She appreciated fine art and enjoyed collecting and antiquing over the years. Bev will always be remembered for her instinctive sense of style and impeccable taste.
Bev was born February 27, 1930 in Union City, Indiana, the oldest daughter of five, to Ray and Edith Buckingham. She graduated from Union City West High School in 1948 and Hanover College (Alpha Delta Pi) in Indiana in 1952, where she met and married the one and only love of her life, Wilbur Howard Hinds, on June 15, 1952. Their life together was rich in travel and experiences and they had the opportunity to live in many cities all over the country, from South Bend, Indiana to Chicago, to New York City, to Moraga and Walnut Creek, California. Bev acclimated and connected to her communities by being a lifelong and active member of the Presbyterian Church. She also spent her time doing philanthropic and volunteer work with the Jr. League in all of these cities.
Bev was preceded in death by her husband of 29 years, Wilbur Hinds, on October 22, 1981; her infant baby, Gregory Hinds; her parents, Ray and Edith Buckingham; her in-laws, Howard and Hazel Hinds; and her niece, former Astronaut Dr. Janice Voss.
Bev will dearly be missed by her much loved daughter and family, Barbara (David) Judson, and her two cherished grandsons, Hogan and Palmer Judson of Delaware, Ohio. She will forever be in the hearts of her siblings, Barbara Buckingham of Rochester, N.Y., Claire (Tom) Nacca of Whispering Pines, N. Car., Gene (Debbie) Buckingham of Union City, Ind., and Susan (Daryl) Chronaberry of Delaware, Ohio. Bev is also survived by her sister-in-law Louise (James) Voss and brother-in -law Eugene Hinds, all of Dupont, Ind.; as well as many cousins, nephews and nieces.
As an expression of sympathy, if you wish, memorial contributions may be made to either the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in honor of Hogan Judson (CFF.org, or mail to: Central Ohio Chapter- Columbus: 575 Copeland Mill Rd. Suite 118 Worthington, OH 43085).
Special 'thank you' to the care teams at Ohio Living Sarah Moore and Capital City Hospice.
In the spirit of honoring Bev's legacy, she would want to protect her family and friends during this time. A celebration of life will take place at the First Presbyterian Church in Delaware, once it is safe to gather.
In light of the current pandemic situation, there will be an outdoor graveside service to honor her life Wednesday, December 30, 2020, at 2:30 p.m., in Oak Grove Cemetery, 334 S. Sandusky St., Delaware, Ohio 43015 with Rev. Deborah Patterson officiating.
