Joseph Anthony Morgan

Joe passed away peacefully at his home in Rancho Palos Verdes on Oct. 14, 2013 at the age of 92. He was born March 1, 1921 in Philadelphia, PA. He graduated from the Naval Academy in 1943 with an engineering degree and married Anna Castner on Oct. 23, 1944. He earned his pilot's wings on Sept. 10, 1945, the same day as his first son's birth. During his 20 years in the Navy, he flew the PB4Y-2 Privateer and P2V-7 Neptune, and he served in Brunswick, ME; Annapolis, MD; Patuxent River, MD; Hawaii; Monterey, CA; Norfolk, VA; and overseas in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. He earned a degree in Meteorology at the Naval Postgraduate School. Joe retired from the Navy in July 1963 and moved his family to California where he accepted a job with North American Aviation as an Operations Analyst. He retired from Boeing in 1985. He sang in the St. John Fisher Parish Choir from 1964 to 2009. Joe and Anne made their home in Rancho Palos Verdes in 1964. Anne passed away in 2008, three days short of 64 years of marriage. Joe is survived by his children, J. Michael (Teresa) Morgan, Catherine (Skip) Moore, David (Cheryl Demerest) Morgan, M. Patrice (Arturo) Abarca, Thomas Morgan, Margaret (Larry) Henry; 13 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and brother, Daniel (Nancy) Morgan. Viewing and prayers are at 10:00 am on Wed., Oct. 23, 2013 at St. John Fisher with Funeral Mass at 11:00, located at 5448 Crest Road, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275. My father was a wonderful example to us all of how someone should live. He loved my Mother, and he loved his family.He was cherished in return. He will be missed by us all. God bless him and keep him in the warmth of his eternal love.
