Betty Goddard(1927 - 2018)

Dec 20, 1927 - June 10, 2018Betty Jean Goddard passed away naturally at home in Lomita, on June 10, 2018, at age 90. Born in 1927 to Floyd and Lydia Shellenberger of Gearhart Oregon, an only child, her mother brought her to California at age 7. She grew up in the Harbor City area on the ranch of her mother's second husband. She graduated from Torrance High in 1945 as Betty Jean Fiesel. In May 1948, Betty married Lloyd Duane Goddard. They remained in Torrance and raised three children. Betty was active in the community, Girl Scouts, and St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. She taught swimming at the Benstead Plunge, worked for the Torrance Recreation Department and was a founding member of the Torrance Farmers' Market. Returning to school she achieved her AA degree at El Camino and went to work for Mobil Oil Corporation. During her 15 year career, she was secretary to the personnel manager, a Field Gauger and a Dispatcher. In 1987 Betty and Lloyd moved to Lake Havasu City Arizona. After Lloyd passed away in 1992, Betty met Stan Deasty, a Canadian citizen who lived his summers in Lake Havasu City. Together they traveled all over the world. Stan passed away in 2011 and Betty returned to Torrance at age 87. She continued to enjoy her life and traveling. Betty is survived by her three children, seven grandchildren and two great- grandchildren. Twice in Betty's life, she has been a grandmother in a five generation span.
