Donald passed away on Thursday, September 1, 2011 in San Pedro. He was born on June 28, 1931 to Roy and Iola Sivard in Torrance. Don joined the Sheriff's Department on July 11, 1958. While on the department he worked Vice, the Academy Staff, as the Chief's aide, Health and Welfare, and Court Services, to name a few. He proudly served LASD for over 32 years and during his service was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. Some of Don's favorite activities included his yearly fishing trips to Alaska, his numerous vacations with special friends, going out on his boat with family and friends, his monthly poker games with the boys, spending time with his grandchildren, where he delighted in seeing their plays and performances, and the frequent get-togethers with his family. Don is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jean; his sons, Donald Jr., David and Gregory; his daughter, Jacqueline (Larry) Saltzman; his grandchildren, Shon, Kristen, Chris, Sarah, David, Katherine, Brian, Jennifer, Andrew, Brittany, Aaron, Ryan, Kylie, Justin. Jayson and Jack; his great grandchildren, Natalie and Andrew. There is a void left in all of us now that he is gone. We will forever cherish the memories of our special times with him. A memorial service will be offered on Saturday, September 10, 1:00pm at Gamby Funeral Home, 25001 Narbonne Ave, Lomita, CA. The family requests that in lieu of flowers a donation be made in Don's name to the charity of your choice. Please sign the guest book for Don at www.dailybreeze.com/obits.
