Abel Gene Garcia Obituary
Abel Gene Garcia of El Rio passed away suddenly on January 20, 2011. He was born November 10, 1954 in Roswell, NM, moved to San Pedro and then resided in Ventura County for 39 years. Abel was a devoted son and brother who helped his mother care for his brother with special needs. He graduated from Rio Mesa High School in 1972 and attended Ventura Community College. As a young man, Abel worked as a commercial lobster fisherman during lobster season with his father, Bill. He was also employed by Power One Electronics, Rubottom Cabinets and Haas Automation. Abel had a kind spirit and would lend a helping hand to whoever asked. He helped build a playground for Douglas Penfield School for Ortho Handicapped and volunteered to help pave the asphalt at the Santa Clara Chapel. Abel had a passion for nice cars starting from his Corvettes to his "tricked out" Suburban. His hobbies also included motocross dirt-bikes, hunting, fishing, watching professional boxing and going to Las Vegas. Abel is survived by his mother, Lillie Butler; brothers, Larry Garcia and Ty Butler. In addition to his immediate family, Abel is survived by his aunts, Lucille (Pete) Castillo, Armada Graham, Liz Marez; and numerous cousins and close friends. He had an infectious smile and was considered like a brother to many. Abel will be sorely missed, but never forgotten. He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Butler and uncle, Tony Marez. Friends and family may visit from 4 until 8 p.m. Thursday, January 27 with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. at the Reardon Funeral Home, 511 North A St., Oxnard.
