Adlene O. Johnson

Adlene Olivia Johnson, longtime resident of Manhattan Beach, was born in rural Starbuck, Minnesota on August 22, 1914 and was the eldest of four children born to Ingvald and Louise (Anderson) Brenden. She passed away in Eagle Rock, CA, on October 30, 2011 at the age of 97. She graduated from Glenwood (MN) High School, married Marshall Johnson of Glenwood and then moved to Minneapolis. In 1948 they moved with their two boys, Howard and Richard, to Manhattan Beach where they lived for 41 years. The couple then lived in Murrieta, CA for 12 years before returning to Manhattan Beach in 2001. Ad spent the last four years of her life at Solheim Lutheran Home in Eagle Rock. She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Marshall in 2009; and her three siblings, Olive Thorstenson (formerly of Manhattan Beach), Wallace Brenden, and Verna Hanson (formerly of Redondo Beach). She is survived by her two sons, Howard L. Johnson (Joan) formerly of Hollywood Riviera and Rancho PV, and now of Excelsior MN, and Richard M. Johnson (Janet) of Manhattan Beach; 11 grandchildren, David, Chris, Paul, Ann, Peter, Mary and Mark, from Minnesota; Derek, Caren, and Brett, from the Los Angeles area, and Alyssa from Bergen, Norway; six great-grandchildren; two nephews, Tom Hanson of San Clemente, and Jim Hanson of Redondo Beach; and several in-laws, nieces and nephews. The funeral will be on November 9 at 11:30 am at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawthorne, CA. Interment will be at 2:30 p.m. at Green Hills Memorial Park, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA.
