Alex was born on September 15, 1950 in Komiza, Croatia. He passed away on January 14, 2015 in his home surrounded by his loving family. Alex moved to San Pedro in 1969 where he resided for 45 years. He met the love of his life, Yvonne, on New Years Eve 1971. They were married for 42 years. Alex worked at StarKist as a maintenance mechanic for nearly 25 years. He then worked as a longshoreman until his passing. Alex was a devoted husband, loving father, doting grandpa and loyal friend. He is survived by his wife, Yvonne; daughters, Kim and Kami (Mike) Ferguson; grandchildren, Jake and Makenna; brothers, Ivo (Jadranka), Jaksa (Soni) and Pavulo (Ivanka); nephew/godson, John and his mother Linda and other cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ivo and Zlatka. Alex loved family vacations to Palm Springs and Maui. He enjoyed playing tennis, tending to his organic garden, BBQing family feasts, attending his grandkids sporting events and watching sports, especially the Lakers and World Cup Soccer. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 from 5-8pm at McNerney's Mortuary. Funeral service is on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at 10:30am at Mary Star of the Sea Church with internment to follow at Green Hills Memorial Park.
