Dr. Alfred Kingsbury Corwin
Dr. Alfred Kingsbury Corwin passed away peacefully, at home on October 29, 2012. He was born on November 5, 1923, in Columbus Ohio, to Katharine Webb Howe and Charles Mathias Corwin; the family moved to CA in 1926, and to Manhattan Beach in 1935. Al graduated from Redondo Union High School in 1942, attended UCLA and served in the U.S. Army during WWII. At UCLA he met his bride, Dorothy Graham, they were married in 1949; Al then attended the California College of Optometry, graduating with his OD in 1952. He was active in supporting his community as a member of the Redondo Beach Kiwanis Club and Rotary Club. He was honored as Man of the Year by the Lions Club in 1982, and by Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce in 1984, for his community service. Al was a golfer and a tennis player for many years. He took up his favorite sport, marathon running, at age 45, and ran over 50 marathons, including the Boston marathon three times. He also was an excellent competitive Bridge player. Al was preceded in death by his sisters Mary Peffer and Jean Clark. He is survived by his wife Dorothy Corwin, his brother, Dr. Charles M. Corwin(Elouise); children, Robyn Corwin, Ronald Corwin (Elizabeth), and Deborah Corwin Scott (Keyes); grandchildren, Lori, James, Lisa (Colin), Casey, Christopher, Kathleen, Alfred, Ashley, and Holly; great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Thomas, Elizabeth; and a great-grandson due in March; 5 nephews, 6 nieces and numerous great nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA on Friday November 9th, 3-8 p.m. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 31290 Palos Verdes Drive W., Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275, on Saturday, November 10th at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Red Cross are welcome in memory of Al.
