Allan Schneiderman Obituary
Allan Schneiderman, MD
October 9, 1927 - January 29, 2016

Palos Verdes Peninsula-
Allan Robert Schneiderman, M.D. 88, died Friday, January 29, 2016 of natural causes at his home in Palos Verdes Peninsula. Born in Hollywood, CA in 1927, son of George and Gertrude Schneiderman, brother of Rita, he was a lifelong resident of Southern California except for his time in the Army. As a teen, he moved with his family to Malibu where he spent summers lifeguarding, body surfing, playing volleyball and enjoying his family's yacht in Catalina. He attended Hollywood High School and then Santa Monica High School, where he participated both in gymnastics and band as a clarinetist. He and friend Dick Narveson, drummer, also performed for the U.S.O.
After graduating in 1945, Allan enlisted in the army and later played clarinet in the Army Band. He was honorably discharged soon after WWII ended and he enrolled at UCLA where he earned his B.S. in Biology and M.A. in Microbiology. He realized his lifetime dream to become a doctor in 1956 when he graduated from the College of Physician and Surgeons, as a D.O. (and an M.D. from U.C. Irvine School of Medicine.) He completed his residency with Los Angeles County Osteopathic Hospital.
For over 40 years he treated patients at his family practice in San Pedro and also he was an Emergency Room specialist at Bay Harbor Hospital. He was a founding member of Bay Harbor Hospital and served on the Bay Harbor Board of Directors for many years and later, the Little Company of Mary Board of Directors. In 2002, he retired from medicine.
Allan loved his family and friends, his patients, Bay Harbor Hospital and practicing medicine. He also loved traveling with wife Gay, going to the beach and Catalina, playing clarinet and saxophone (especially jazz and big band music) and laughing. He was a kind, funny and generous man who dedicated his life to the work he loved most- caring for his patients.
Allan was preceded in death by his sister, Rita Eisen. He will be missed by Gay, his wife of 49 years, his children and their spouses, Susan Schneiderman (by a previous marriage to Phyllis) (Ken), Glen Schneiderman (Cathy) and Jill Hollingshead (Todd); grandchildren, Danielle, Ava, Lauren, Zoe, Mark and Sloane; nephew, Bill Eisen (Virginia), niece, Emily Golan; caregivers Mikki and Celeste, as well as friends and colleagues.
A celebration of Allan's life will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2016 in Redondo Beach. For more information, please call (310) 710-3942 or e-mail [email protected]
