Stubbe, Arabelle L.
Arabelle Stubbe died at her home in Rolling Hills Estates, California, on August 25, 2011. Arabelle was born on September 7, 1922, in Minnesota to James and Reba Robertson. She was the eldest of four children. She attended school in Minneapolis and graduated from Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis in 1940. After high school graduation, Arabelle attended Macalester College in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Arabelle graduated from Macalester in 1944 and subsequently taught English and History in several different Minnesota high schools. In 1954 Arabelle moved to California and began teaching English at Orange High School in Orange, California. Two years later, on June 15, 1956, Arabelle married Clair Stubbe and moved to the South Bay area. She began teaching English at Mira Costa High School in Manhattan Beach the same year. Arabelle taught English at Mira Costa for approximately sixteen years and then became a Vice-Principal at Aviation High School in the same school district. Arabelle retired in 1982 when Aviation High School closed. Arabelle enjoyed literature, gardening, travel and the theater. She was a season subscriber to the Center Theater Group plays at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles for over 40 years. Arabelle is survived by a sister, Jean Williamson of Bloomington, Minnesota; numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, as well as three brothers-in-law. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Clair Stubbe, a brother, James Robertson, and a sister, Elizabeth Schaffer. No memorial service is planned at the present time. A Visitation for Arabelle Stubbe will be held at the White Day Colonial Mortuary in Redondo Beach on Saturday, September 3, 2011, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation, the Mira Costa High School Scholarship Fund or to the Center Theater Group in Los Angeles.
