Barbara Howard Obituary
Barbara Prost Howard
June 6, 1925-July 5, 2016

Barbara was born and raised in San Francisco to Hazel and Ed Prost. She shared her childhood with her older sister Dorothy. Dot's children, Carol and Art were like her own. Barbara attended UC Berkeley, joined Kappa Delta sorority, and met her husband of 56 years, Harold (Hal) Howard, Jr., a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. They were married in 1946 and shortly after graduation in 1948 moved to the Los Angeles area to start their family.

Barbara and Hal traveled all over Europe with some close Cal Bear friends and went on cruises to many parts of the world with other church members. They always returned home to their foundation; family, church, second home in Palm Desert, and Napili Kai Resort on Maui.

After Hal passed away in 2002, Barbara forged a new life as a widow but remained the matriarch of her family and extended family. She was always generous and loving and had great concern for all her friends and those who helped her. Barbara was an active member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, volunteered through Las Vecinas, was on the UC Berkeley Alumni Scholarship Committee for many years, and enjoyed the Red Hat Group in Palm Desert. Barbara lived a full and joyful 91 years.

She is survived by her three children; Diane (Hossain) Meftagh, Doug (Joyce), and Don Howard; five grandchildren; Jared, Kristen, Rion, Corey, and Jessica and two great grandchildren; Anaya and Orion.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at 4:00pm at St. Peter's Episcopal Church 1648 W. 9th Street, San Pedro, CA 90732.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to either Cal Alumni Association's Leadership Award (online at https://give.berkeley.edu/egiving/index.cfm?fund=FL0120000 or mailed to UC Berkeley Foundation, University of California, Berkeley, P.O.
