Obituary Condolences

Barbara Kay Winarski
"Barb" (Nee: Joyce)

At the age of 69, Barbara passed away peacefully at home on March 11, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Santa Monica, California on March 21, 1943 and moved to San Pedro, California where she raised her three children. She has lived in Lockport, Illinois for the past five years. Barbara was a generous and nurturing soul. As a young woman, she taught special education for five years and dedicated many, many additional years as a substitute teacher. She committed countless hours to school activities, including scouting, the morning lunch program and was well known as the "Carnival Lady" in her San Pedro community. In Lockport, she was an active parishioner at the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus, Joliet, where she counseled premarital couples even up to her very final days. Barbara was the quintessential hostess with family and friends enjoying her food and company at home. Every fall, she cheered on the "Fighting Irish" as an avid Notre Dame fan. In the spring, her garden erupted with thousands of daffodils. She loved sewing, knick-knacks, pineapple in Hawaii, Mexican food, crime drama re-runs, crossword puzzles, Sunday dinners with her granddaughter underfoot and anything green. Preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Kathryn (Kirtz) Joyce. Survived by her loving and devoted husband of 43 years, Carman; her children, Robert (Nancy) Winarski, Jennifer Winarski and Debbie (John Paul) Vaughan; one cherished granddaughter, Kathlena Vaughan and a brother James (Barbara) Joyce of Sacramento, CA. In lieu of flowers, Memorials to Will County Humane Society would be appreciated. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, 9:15 a.m. from the O'NEIL FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, 1105 E. 9TH ST. (159TH ST.), LOCKPORT to the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus, Joliet for Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Entombment Resurrection Cemetery, Romeoville. Visitation Friday at the funeral home on Friday, 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Please sign the guest book at www.dailybreeze.com/obits.
