Benita M. Torres went to be with the Lord on October 3, 2011. Benita was born in Banning, Ca. on Sept 16, 1930, she was the first child of Jose and Carmen Medina who later had an 8 additional children. Benita had 3 brothers, 5 sisters. She grew up in Coachella Valley, Ca. In 1944 she married Geronimo Parra and moved to Northern Ca., later to Los Angeles, where they raised 8 children. In 1960 she moved to Wilmington where she then married Luis Torres and they spent the rest of their glorious years together. We are joyful to celebrate the life of Benita. She had a total of 10 children, Linda Cortez ( Daniel ), Mary Parra, Bertha Robles,( Howard ), Connie Garcia ( Joe ), Celia Rogalski ( Dana ), Jerry Parra (Chiquita ), Irma Luna ( Richard ), Jose Parra ( Yvette ) , Angel Torres and Reymundo Parra Torres. Benita was devoted to her family, her 38 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great grandchildren. Benita leaves a legacy of love to so many, she was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother , sister, woman, neighbor and friend. She drew in every person she encountered. Her favorite expression was " I was just thinking about you " She prayed for everyone. When she wasn't trying to feed you she was trying to send you home with food to make sure you were nourished properly. In the Bible God demonstrates unconditional Love, well Benita was the perfect example of this Unconditional love here on earth. It was never about her, it was always about those she loved. She was a very hard worker. Benita was a cannery worker until she retired in 1970. Every moment of her existence no matter if she was working at the canneries or at home she was doing for others. She will forever be remembered for her generosity, caring, giving and loving to all. What an example she has left to all her family and friends. Thank you Mom for the greatest gift anyone could give "LOVE." A Memorial will be held at ALL SOULS Mortuary in Long Beach, on Monday October 10 at 5pm to 8pm. A Mass will follow at ALL SOULS Mortuary on Tuesday October 11 at 11:00am. Interment to follow at All Souls Cemetery, Long Beach, CA.
