Dr. Bennie Ray Ruiz

Dr. Bennie Ray Ruiz, a respected dentist in Lomita, passed away suddenly on November 26, 2016 due to heart failure at the age of 73. Bennie is survived by his wife, Linda Ruiz; his daughter, Ashley Ruiz; his granddaughter, Mia Bogino; his brother, Paul Ruiz; and his sister, Jan Ruiz-Cowles.

In 1943, Bennie was born in San Antonio, Texas to Dr. Al and Juanita Ruiz and moved to Long Beach as an infant. He attended St. Anthony Parish School before moving to the city of Lakewood. He was very social and made many friends at Bancroft Junior High School. He also attended Lakewood High School and graduated in 1962 (Chi Sigma), Long Beach City College (The Order of Tong), and California State University, Long Beach (Sigma Alpha Epsilon). Bennie served in the U.S. Army in the mid 1960's and was sent to Vietnam for a year.

He married the love of his life, Linda Latshaw, in 1972. They moved to the city of San Francisco in 1973 and Bennie graduated from the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry in 1976 and joined his father's practice in Lomita, CA. On September 13, 1980, he and Linda welcomed their beloved daughter, Ashley. On June 29, 2012, Ashley gave birth to his granddaughter, Mia, whom he adored.

Bennie enjoyed golfing, antiquing, traveling, and having a good time. He always had a smile on his face and those who knew him knew he had a heart of gold. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, patients, and all who knew him.
