She was born to Morris and Anna Shneer and is survived by her two sons, Robert Hoyt (Lupe) and Mark Hoyt (Pam); grandchildren, Karen, David, Sylvia (Robert) and Kyle and John (Mark); and three great-grandchildren. Rona was born in Brooklyn, NY but spent much of her childhood in Stelton, NJ. She was educated at Columbia University and The Juilliard School in New York City, where she majored in clarinet. She was married in New York to John Hoyt while he was stationed there working on the Manhattan project. Rona taught music during this time. She was divorced from John in 1961 and headed west to Santa Monica to be near relatives already in Los Angeles. She later married Willis Trainor, 1966 to 1980. Rona came to San Pedro in 1966 when Will relocated to work as an engineer in the Todd Shipyards. Rona was an elementary school teacher in the Compton School district. After her marriage to Will she met Earl Swenson who became her beloved life time companion. In her retirement Rona volunteered at the Los Angeles Maritime museum. Funeral arrangements were handled by the Cremation Society of the South Bay.
