Carlos Valdez Obituary
Carlos Valdez

Carlos Valdez joined his heavenly Savior - the Lord Jesus Christ on Friday, January 20, 2012. He passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home and with his loving family. Carlos, a proud born and raised "Pedro boy" was born on January 7, 1961. He graduated from San Pedro High School in 1979, where he played football and was captain of the varsity team. Carlos then went on to graduate with his associate's degree from Devry University. He was a dedicated employee of the Southern California Gas Company, where he built a long career of 19 years. He later left the Gas Company and became a registered longshoreman with ILWU Local 13. Carlos was a strong, hard-working man who loved his family. He is survived by his two children, Sarah and Vance Valdez and his beautiful wife, Maria Valdez. Carlos and Maria were in love, united in holy matrimony, for 26 magnificent years. Carlos was also loved by a beautiful and large family. He is survived by his father and mother, Refugio and Antonia Valdez; his brothers, Jr. Valdez and Al (Marisa) Valdez; sisters, Martha (Ricardo) Gutierrez and Veronica (Paul) Ferrell; and by many nieces and nephews. A man who loved the ocean, Carlos was a passionate, lifetime surfer. Carlos also loved to paint, and appreciated art; he played the guitar and enjoyed an eclectic taste in music. Carlos was a kind man who touched all that knew him. He was grounded in his faith with Jesus Christ, and loved to share the word of the Lord with anyone who would listen. We know that Carlos is peacefully resting in paradise, with his Heavenly Father. Carlos is missed tremendously, but his spirit will continue to live on with us into the future. The viewing will be held on Thursday, January 26, 2012 from 3-8 p.m. The funeral service will held on Friday, January 27, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Both services will be held at McNerney's Mortuary in San Pedro. In his honor, a "paddle out" will be held at Royal Palms State Beach on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. Interment will be private. Please sign the guestbook
