Carmine Centofanti Obituary
Carmine Centofanti was born September 19, 1920 in Sulmona, Italy. He passed away peacefully on September 2, 2010 at the age of 89 in Redondo Beach, California. Upon arriving in the USA in 1938 he had little in the way of wealth or possessions, but he had an abundance of natural charm, an independent spirit and a willingness to work hard to get ahead. After serving in the US Army during World War II Carmine married the love of his life, Josephine of Campbell, Ohio in 1944. They happily traveled through life together for the next 66 years. While living in Ohio Carmine worked at Raymond International. He and Jo built a home in Youngstown, Ohio and settled in to raise their three children, Robert, Jerry and Nancy. An adventurous spirit led him to California in 1963 where he began working at Union Carbide in Torrance. Following a few years of residing in Redondo Beach, the family moved to Palos Verdes in 1967. Carmine loved the ocean views and beauty of the Palos Verdes Peninsula. Following his retirement in the early 1980's Carmine and Jo were off to Palm Springs. He loved the climate and the carefree lifestyle and made many new friends. Carmine was devoted to his family and treasured family gatherings and traveling with his family. Carmine is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Josephine; sons, Robert, Jerry (Lynne); daughter, Nancy (Kevin) Niles; granddaughter, Joanna (Charles) Curtis and great-grandson, Joseph. He was predeceased by his beloved grandson, Kevin Michael Niles in 2003. Carmine also is survived by a brother in Australia and a sister in Italy as well as many loving nieces and nephews in California, Ohio, North Carolina, Australia and Italy.
