Carol Ann Dowsing

1943 - 2015

Carol Ann Dowsing (1943–2015) passed away quietly at her home on August 6, 2015. Born in NW Washington DC and growing up in Arlington VA, her life was affected by personal proximity to world events. As a child she could see the top of the Washington Monument from her bedroom window. Carol started her education at Green Hedges, a wonderful school in a private home, in the Virginia country side. Before graduating high school she began working at the National Democratic Headquarters in DC during John Kennedy's bid for the presidency and later for a congressmen and then to the White House tours office. On that fateful day, November 22nd, 1963, had to keep a line open to Dallas for arrangements for the return of President Kennedy's body. Carol's office had the most outside phone lines so it became the center for the funeral arrangements. After the assassination Carol continued at the White House, though it had left a hole in Carol's life. Coming to California friends got her a job at Continental Airlines about the time Pierre Salinger, the former White House press secretary, began there. When Bobby Kennedy announced his bid for the Presidency, both of them went to the work on the campaign at the Ambassador Hotel. As fate would have it, Carol was there waiting in a room on the other side of the kitchen for Bobby Kennedy to come to through after his victory speech in the ballroom, but he never made it. Carol was encouraged her to take a job with the former California lieutenant governor, Glenn Anderson, in his campaign for congress. There she met John, a volunteer providing campaign photography. Carol and John fell in love and a year later they were married. In 1969 they opened Dowsing Photography Studios in Torrance, and for the next wonderful 35 years they worked together every day. Through the studio's success, Carol and John were able to design and build their dream house in Palos Verdes, the place she most loved to be and where she spent her last days.

An home reception will be held to celebrate Carol's life on Saturday the 29th of August 2015. Please sign the guestbook at www.dailybreeze.com/obits.
