Catherine "Cas" O'Donnell

Died peacefully surrounded by her children on October 14, 2013 at the age of 86. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Cas was born in Pittsburgh, PA into the large and lively Irish family of John and Bridget Connolly who were from County Galway, Ireland. She graduated from Annunciation High School where she played on the basketball team. On May 3, 1952, she married Timothy O'Donnell in Pittsburgh. Tim and Cas, who grew up in the same neighborhood just houses apart, moved to California in 1959 via Dayton, Ohio and Chicago, Illinois. Together they founded O'Donnell Associates in 1963. Parents of five children, they enjoyed entertaining family and friends in their home and were known for their hospitality and devotion to family. Cas had amazing energy and attended countless games and activities of her five children, did bookkeeping for the company and was a fabulous cook and homemaker who could make or fix almost anything. She was fun, happy and always there ready to listen with kindness and a positive outlook on life. Cas loved music, flowers and children. She also enjoyed playing bridge, won bowling trophies and loved attending her morning exercise class for many years.Tim and Cas enjoyed their trips all over the world. When Tim passed away in 2008, they had been married for 55 years. They would both say, "We had a wonderful life." They were long time members of St. John Fisher Catholic Church in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA. Surviving Cas are her children: Linda Goldstein (Ed) Louisville, KY; Peggy Hunt (Tom) Port Orchard, WA; Cathy Schumacher (Jim) Los Gatos, CA; Eileen Berger (Kevin) Glen Ellen, CA and Timothy O'Donnell (Cheryl) Del Aire, CA.
Nine grandchildren: Geoffrey (Stacey), Timothy and Andrew Hunt; David Goldstein; Erin and Ian Schumacher; Joseph and Catherine Connolly Berger; Cullen O'Donnell; and great-granddaughter Catherine Grace Hunt. Surviving siblings are Nan Gebhardt and Theresa Spangler of Pittsburgh, PA. Cas was preceded in death by her beloved husband Timothy O'Donnell; parents, John and Bridget Connolly; brothers, Joseph, Coleman and Francis Connolly ; and her sisters, Mary (Sr. M. Valeria), Nora Grom and Patricia Cantwell. The family wishes to express our deepest gratitude to her doctors and the devoted nurses and caregivers who cared for Cas during her illness.
