Charles A. McLaughlin Obituary
May 1, 1924 - July 23, 2011

Charlie McLaughlin, a resident of Rancho Palos Verdes since 1957, passed away this past Saturday at the age of 87. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was a Commissioned Officer of the US Navy, and was a graduate of Georgia Tech. Charlie met the love of his life, Alice, in Atlanta and from there his family life and engineering career took him cross country. While working for General Motors as an industrial engineer, he first worked in Atlanta, then moved to Detroit. It was in 1957 that GM transferred him to California where he settled with his young family in Palos Verdes. Charlie's career transitioned to aerospace engineering when he joined Hughes Aircraft Company in Culver City. He retired from Hughes in 1983 after 25 years of service as the Head of Procedures, Special Projects and Production Operations. He continued his self-driven career of managing his rental property since that time. Charlie was an amazing man who loved his family and friends and was greatly loved by all. In his retired years, he loved to travel and to play golf in the Palm Springs desert. He is survived by his wife, one daughter, two sons, one granddaughter, five grandsons, and two sisters. Charlie will be remembered for his Amazing Irish Charm. Services will be held at 3:00pm this Wednesday, July 27th at St. John Fisher Church in Rolling Hills Estates. This will be immediately followed with an Irish Wake at the McLaughlin home. Electronic condolences can be sent to his sons at [email protected]">[email protected]">[email protected]">[email protected] and [email protected]">[email protected]">[email protected]">[email protected] or www.dailybreeze.com/obits.
