Christina Talavera Salcedo, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt to so many nephews and nieces and a loving friend to all, passed away on Monday, March 12, 2012. Born in El Paso, Texas, January 1, 1948 to Felipe Talavera and Nieves Avila. She comes from a large family: eight brothers, Lorenzo, Pablo (deceased), Guillermo, Robert, Gino, Felipe, Mario and Peter. Seven sisters, Tomasa, Leticia, Patricia, Gina, Sylvia, Betty and Mary. She was a compassionate, loving, and strong woman. Christina was always looking to help people out. For many years she did this by working as a counselor for battered women and children at Su Casa in Long Beach for 8 years and The Rainbow Shelter in San Pedro for 5 years. She loved spending time with her husband Carlos of over 30 years and was the pillar of her family. She loved life to the fullest, enjoying every minute celebrating her family and friends. Her beautiful spirit will be missed greatly by all who knew her. Christina is survived by her husband, Carlos; her sons, Anthony, Louie, Lorenzo, Sergio and Marcos; and her beautiful daughter, Christina; 13 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. Services will be held at All Souls Chapel, 4400 Cherry Avenue, Long Beach, CA on Wednesday, March 21, 2012.
