Chris Hill Returns Home

On Tuesday, November 18th, 2014 Christopher Whiting Hill, known to all his friends as Chris, was called home by God. Chris was born on February 2, 1959, moved to Avalon in 1965 here he spent many happy years attending Avalon School, before moving back to the mainland in 1973. He graduated from Mira Costa High School and went on to manage Dewey Weber Surfboards in Hermosa Beach.
After that Chris opened The Arrangement, a florist shop in Redondo Beach and ran it for 15 years before changing his occupation to Christmas lights installation, remodeling and repairing homes. He had many customers in the South Bay and had a very successful business up until his death.
He is survived by a loving family: his brother Gregory and wife Louise and their two children Robert and Wesley of Nevada; his brother David and wife Suzi of Lomita, California; and his mother, Lenni Hill of San Pedro, California. Chris was married to Johanna and adopted her daughter Valery. Chris and Valery have been inseparable since they met.
Chris had thousands of friends and will be missed by all who knew him. He loved Avalon and the South Bay and his remains will eventually be scattered at sea off of Catalina Island.
The Chris Hill Memorial Paddle Out will be held on Saturday December 6, 2014 at 12 Noon in Hermosa Beach at 10th Street, where Chris learned to Surf. Right afterwards there will be a "Celebration of Life" at the Mermaid Restaurant on Pier Avenue and the Strand.
There will be a Silent Auction Fund Raiser for Valery Hill at The Mermaid. Flowers will be provided by Magic Blooms. Please come and help us Celebrate Chris' Wonderful Life. Please sign the guestbook at www.dailybreeze .com/obits.
