Claire Byerle Kelbaugh

Claire, known to his friends as "Tay," passed away August 4, 2012 at the age of 94. He was born April 27, 1918 in New Brighton, Pennsylvania, where he lived until 1963, when he moved to Torrance, California. "Tay" was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Betty Jean Kelbaugh (Austin). He is survived by his present wife, Doreen B. Kelbaugh; his son, Ronald Kelbaugh; stepsons, Steve Albers and Randy Albers; grandchildren, Jennifer Wilson, Christina Belk, Matthew Kelbaugh, Joshua Albers and Nicole Albers; and 7 great-grandchildren. Claire served in the United States Air Force from 1942-1946. He also served in the Air Force Reserves from 1946-1978, retiring with the rank of lieutenant colonel. He taught industrial arts in the Torrance Unified School District from 1963 until his retirement. Claire was active in the Torrance Masonic Lodge #259, the Long Beach Scottish Rite, the Almalekah Shrine and the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #360. Claire sang with the Shrine's Chanters group. Visitation will be on Monday, August 13, 2012 from 4-8 p.m., followed by a funeral service on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at noon, both at the A. M. Gamby Funeral Home, Lomita.
