Claude A. "Cal" LaFebre
Passed away peacefully on June 23, 2014 with family members by his immediate side. Claude was born in Denver, CO December 19, 1937. Claude's family moved to California when he was very young in order for his father to take work at Todd Shipyard. Claude was the youngest of four children and the only son of Claude and Bernice LaFebre. Claude's sisters were Florine, Louella and Susan, all of whom have previously passed. As a youth Claude attended Mary Star School in San Pedro. Upon completion, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. After completing his obligated tour of service in the early years of the Vietnam Conflict, Claude returned to San Pedro, where he completed his high school education, receiving his diploma from San Pedro High School. Growing up in the greater LA Harbor area, Claude took to employment as a deck hand and mate on local San Pedro fishing boats. In late 1957, Claude met his future wife, Anna Inger Tostrup. The two were married on June 7, 1958. The two recently celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary. On November 1, 1958 Claude and Anna celebrated the birth of their first child, daughter, Joan Elisabeth. On September 21st, the couple welcomed a son, John Andrew. Claude worked in the capacity of an Insurance Agent from 1969, and Brokered his own independent insurance business through 1994. Claude and family had relocated to the Seattle area for approximately 2 years during the earlier periods of his Insurance Agent career. In 1978 Claude joined the Longshoremen's Union as a Swing Man. Claude remained a member of the Longshoremen's Union until 1994, when he retired as a Marine Clerk after 16 years of dockside service in the greater Los Angeles Harbor. Claude was a beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle "Sonny." Claude's passion, always and foremost, was love of his entire Family. Claude leaves behind wife, Anna; daughter, Joan LaFebre-Wilson; son, John LaFebre; sisters-in-law, Karen and Ingrid Tostrup; brother-in-law, Tom Tostrup; son-in-law, Robert (Pat) Wilson; daughter-in-law, Caprice Contreras-LaFebre; six grandchildren, Jeremy, Joshua, Jacob, Veronica, Erik and Kyle; 5 great-grandchildren, Shiyan, Sierra, Sophia, Kayden and Isabelle and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Claude will be remembered for his Love of Family, Passion for Life, Benevolence towards others, Love of Travel and as a self-proclaimed honorary Norseman who left his mark and memory on his extended Norwegian Family. The Family will always remember Claude as a person who knew how to throw the very best of National Holiday Parties throughout the year at his San Pedro residence.
