Born in Fresno, California, he was the oldest child of Claude H. Ragsdale and Dorothy Kingery. Claude graduated from Corona High School in 1951 and worked at the Corona Lemon Exchange before entering the United States Army in 1953. After completing his military service he resumed his education while working part-time at the Boys Club of America, Long Beach. He attended classes at Cal State Long Beach, USC, UCLA, and Whittier College while working toward a career in education. His entire career was spent working for the Torrance Unified School District. His first assignment was as a teacher and later on a counselor at North High School. In 1966 he became an Assistant Principal At Torrance High, and in 1989 was transferred to South High where he worked until his retirement in 1993. Claude was an avid outdoorsmen who loved hunting and fishing and he enjoyed spectator sports, especially football. He married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn, on October 18, 1952 and together they raised three children; Stephen, Brian (Karen) and Kimberly Ragsdale. Claude was preceded in death by his parents and two younger brothers, John and David. In addition to his wife and children he is survived by four grandchildren, Heather, Katy, Kevin, and Amanda, and great grandsons Dallas. There will be a memorial service November 2 at 1:00 p.m., First Lutheran Church, 2900 West Carson Street, Torrance. In lieu of flowers please feel free to donate to in Claude's memory.
