Cynthia R. (Gale) Sweeney, born August 18, 1925 passed away peacefully at her daughters home in Eugene, OR surrounded by her family at the age of 91 on January 21, 2017.

Cynthia was born in Bournemouth, England, a British war bride, an army wife, devoted mother who traveled and lived with her four children and husband, Capt. John (Jack) Sweeney, in the California Bay Area, France, England and settled in San Pedro in 1960 where her husband retired from Fort McArthur. Cynthia was a 53 year resident of San Pedro and enjoyed many long term friendships in the area. She was active in the Elks, Brass and Strips, the Senior Club, Pearl Harbor Survivors, she was a member of the British American Club, Daughters of the British Empire and The Britannia Club.

Cynthia worked for the Royal Army Pay Corp as a young girl during the war and took her turn on top of high buildings to report fires as a spotter. Cynthia was a fulltime Mom and also worked alongside Jack at the California Yacht Anchorage in the Food Service Business for many years.

After her husband died in 1983, she met Walter. Walt played in a big band which was the right cup of tea for Cynthia as she continued her love of dance! For her 90th birthday Cynthia traveled and invited her family to accompany her across the pond to England and France. She celebrated her 90th Birthday in Bournemouth, at her nieces' home, with 30 close friends and relatives in attendance.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Capt. John F. Sweeney, her companion of 21 years, Walter Kronberger, her son Paul Sweeney, her sister Joan Kinnear. She is survived by her daughters Gloria Noceti of Shelton, WA, Josephine Bevis Baguley of Port Angeles, WA and Yvonne (Larry) Hall of Eugene, OR. Grandchildren April (Todd) Inlow, Patrick Bevis, Mathew Bevis, Natalie (Zack) Blalack, Brianna Sweeney, and great grandson James Blalack. Stepson John (Pauline) Sweeney, grandson Douglas and great grandchildren Kia and Mia Sweeney.
