Virginia D. Elderkin-Thompson

Virginia passed peacefully at home on September 24, 2012 with her immediate family by her side. She is survived by Ronald Thompson, her husband of 47 years; her daughter Sara Stewart and husband Michael: her son Craig Thompson and his wife Michelle; and five grandchildren, Austin Stewart, Noah and Sage Thompson and Luke and James Bailey. She is also survived by her brother Robert Elderkin and his wife Joann. Virginia was the daughter of Robert and Bernice Elderkin and was born January 12, 1942 in Jamestown, New York. She graduated from the University of Oregon with a degree in Sociology in 1964. She and Ronald were married in December of 1964. They have been residents of the Palos Verdes Peninsula for the past 43 years. Virginia worked as an office manager, high school teacher and junior college instructor until she began work on advanced degrees in Psychology. She completed a MA degree at California State University, Dominguez Hills in 1979 and subsequently completed an MS and PhD degree in Psychology from the University of California, Irvine in 1996. Until her retirement in 2009 she worked as a Neuropsychologist teaching and specializing in research of brain disorders, first at U.C. Irvine and finally as faculty at UCLA. A memorial service will be held in her honor at 5:00 pm on October 21,2012 at the Point Vicente Interpretive Center.
