Daniel Horeczko Obituary
Daniel Damien Stephen Horeczko

It is with great sadness that the family of Daniel Horeczko announces his passing after a long battle with cancer, at his home on Sunday, December 13th, 2015, just a month before his 37th birthday. Daniel was born on January 18th, 1979 in Torrance and grew up in his hometown of San Pedro, CA. Wherever Danny spent time, he gathered lifelong friends, starting at Mary Star of the Sea Elementary and High Schools, most especially with his football teammates. He continued his Catholic education at the University of San Diego, and fulfilled his dream of becoming a lawyer with his graduation at Western State University College of Law. Since his teenage years, Danny battled a devastating autoimmune disease that posed constant obstacles and recurring complications; his tenacity and strength of body and spirit propelled him ever forward, without complaint or excuse. Danny made everyone he knew or met feel warm and understood; at the very least they experienced a sample of his charm, wit, or fun-loving mischief. Never taking life too seriously, Danny was an example to all of the importance of perspective and family. A life-long athlete, he loved the outdoors, and ran several marathons. He loved to travel and get into some adventures, but what he loved most was simply spending time with his friends and family. He will always be remembered – with a smile – for his caring, selflessness, and perseverance. Daniel is preceded in eternal repose by his father, Bohdan, his uncles Andrew and Ted, and his grandparents. He will ever be remembered and loved by his mother Carolyn; his sister Stephanie; his sister Christina, brother-in-law Kurt, nephew Dylan, and niece Catherine Giles; his brother Gregory, niece Anna, and nephew Nicholas; his brother Matthew, sister-in-law Deborah, nieces Grace and Clara, and his namesake nephew Danieljohn; his brothers Timothy and Luke; and his fiancée Kristina Hamm. Sharing in their love and sorrow are his uncle George and aunt Mika and their children and grandchildren; his aunt Maka and her children and grandchildren; his uncle Walter and aunt Mary, and their children and grandchildren; and his numerous good friends, who are part of our family. A rosary will be prayed for the repose of his soul at McNerney's Mortuary on Thursday, December 17th, 2015 at 7 p.m. (visitation from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.). Mass will be held at Mary Star of the Sea Church on Friday, December 18th, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Green Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please consider donation to the Vasculitis Foundation: http://www.vasculitisfoundation.org/ (Wegener's Granulomatosis/Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis) or to the Ukrainian Catholic Education Foundation: http://ucef.org/ Please sign the guestbook at mcnerneysmortuary.com or dailybreeze.com.
