Domenico Grillo Obituary
Domenico the youngest of five children was born in Marsala Trapani, Italy on January 1, 1916. He was raised in Terrasini Palermo, Italy. At the age of 18 he was called to war in Italy and served his country in the military as a marine for 11 years. At one point during his military career he was captured by the British Army and became a POW. He survived this harrowing experience and went on to live a very full life. Domenico married the love of his life Angelina at the tender age of twenty five. They were happily married for over sixty three years. Domenico moved to the lovely city of San Pedro, CA in 1960. The coastal climate and fishing industry reminded him of his earlier years in Italy. They brought a beautiful daughter, Anna, into the world. Domenico worked in the seafood industry at StarKist canneries until he retired. He lived a very full and rich life. He is survived by his only daughter, Anna Lucido and her husband, Peter. He leaves behind his grandchildren, Domenic (Cindy) Anthony, Maria, (Patrick) and Angela (John), followed by great-grandchildren Peter, Olivia, Cordelia, Jessica, Angelina and Baby Juliana. He was a member of the Italian American Club and Anderson Adult Center. He loved taking long walks and always loved using public transportation. He so enjoyed escaping on the bus routes, seeing something new everyday. We love and miss Nono very much. A vigil service will be held on Thursday, 7:00 p.m. at McNerney's Mortuary Chapel. A funeral Mass will be offered on Friday, September 23, 2011, 10:30 a.m. at Mary Star of the Sea Church, followed by interment at Green Hills Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Thursday, 6 - 7 p.m. at McNerney's Mortuary. Please sign the guestbook for Domenico at www.dailybreeze.com/obits.
