Dorothy Rechtin Obituary
Dorothy Rechtin

Dorothy Rechtin passed away peacefully on January 21, 2015. A woman of many talents, she was in the course of her lifetime a beloved daughter, graduate of Scripps College, fashion designer, deeply romantic wife, enthusiastic mother, world traveler, and lover of art and all growing things. At the age of 52, she returned to Stanford for a rigorous docent-training program, continued at Long Beach State University in a graduate program in Arts Administration, and then worked at the Palos Verdes Art Center as a curator of exhibitions. During her 38 years in Palos Verdes, she was the founder and chair of the Multicultural Association of the Peninsula, and a tireless volunteer for many church, environmental and cultural associations. In 1997, she was awarded the AAUW branch's Status of Women Award. Those who were lucky enough to know her were often the recipient of her "Little Red Riding Hood baskets" - filled with food and flowers for those who were ill or in the midst of sadness. She was the widow of Eberhardt Rechtin, and is survived by her children - Andrea Rechtin Johnston, Nina Meierding, Julie Rechtin, Erica Bauermeister, and Mark Rechtin; as well as her four grandchildren, David and Christopher Meierding, Caitlin Vincent, and Rylan Bauermeister.

Services will be held at the Neighborhood Church in Palos Verdes on February 15th at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the AAUW Tech Trek with checks payable to AAUW CA SPF and mailed to Dale Richards, AAUW Palos Verdes Peninsula Branch, P.O. Box 2443, Palos Verdes Peninsula, CA 90274. Please sign the guest book at www.dailybreeze.com/obits.
