Obituary Condolences

Dorotha Ellen Howard

Dorotha Ellen Howard, a lifelong resident of the South Bay area, passed away on May 14, 2012 in Torrance. She was born in Los Angeles on March 14, 1935 to James and Lola McCain, and attended school in Santa Monica. After meeting her husband, Jim on a blind date in December of 1953, they married in September of 1954. They moved to Redondo Beach in 1957 after Jim's discharge from the military, and purchased their family home in 1960. Dotty (aka Honey, Mom, Mama, Nana, Nonnie and GG) was a stay-at-home mom to her three daughters until 1983, when she started her career in Early Childhood Education. She ultimately became the director of Seasprites Children's Center in Hermosa Beach in 1987, after completing her ECE Certification from UCLA. During her 24 year tenure as the director of Seasprites, she lovingly touched the lives of hundreds of local children and their parents and was a valued and respected member of the community. All who knew her will miss her hilarous sense of humor. All who loved her will miss her laughter, her wisdom and her unconditional love. She is survived by Jim, her husband of 57 years; her daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Steve Robison of Post Falls, ID, Debbie and George Collins of Redondo Beach, Jamie and Dan Auton of Hawthorne; her sister, Bonnie Trump of Grass Valley, CA; and her brother, James McCain of Bayfield, CO. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Justin Horwat, Jenna Horwat, Emily Collins Spaulding, Tracy Collins, Lindsey Collins and James Auton; great-grandchildren, Raiden and Aubriana Horwat and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of Dotty's life will be held at Valley Park in Hermosa Beach, on Sunday, May 20, 2012 at 10 am. All whose lives were touched by Dotty are
cordially invited to attend and share their memories of this amazing lady. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dotty's name to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Please sign the guest book at www.dailybreeze.com/obits.
