Dr. Arthur Margolese,

1929 - 2011 Obituary Condolences
Dr. Arthur Margolese, Obituary
Santa Rosa, California

Surrounded by his loving family, Dr. Arthur Margolese passed away peacefully on March 14, 2011, at the age of 82, ending his valiant battle with cancer. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he moved at the age of 5 with his family to Santa Monica, CA, where he was raised. A doctor of education, Arthur served nearly his entire career with the Wiseburn School District, located south of Los Angeles International Airport. He began as a teacher in elementary and middle schools, becoming a school principal and later district superintendent, a position he filled for 18 years until his retirement in 1989. Meanwhile, he taught at the University of Southern California, served as president of the Centinela Valley Child Guidance Clinic, and was involved in many other community organizations. Over the years, he received numerous citations from government and other bodies for his many contributions to his communities. Arthur and his high school sweetheart, Helen, recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Upon retirement, they moved to Santa Rosa in Sonoma County, where they have both been active in Congregation Beth Ami and various community activities. Arthur was well beloved as a man of great learning, wisdom, integrity, compassion and generosity. He is survived by his wife, Helen; their daughter, Michelle (Paul Zygielbaum); and sons, David and Greg (Angela); grandchildren, Samuel, Beth (Jason Dietrich) and Joshua Zygielbaum (Tammie) and Aaron Margolese; and great-grandchildren, Ava Zygielbaum and Jonah Dietrich. Services will be held at Santa Rosa Memorial Park on March 16 at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family would encourage donations to the Redwood Empire Food Bank.
