Elaine Dorothy Morrison was born July 31, 1935 in Providence, Rhode Island. She passed away on April 22, 2012 and is now pain free in the hands of the Lord. She moved with her family to southern California, attending Van Nuys High School. She married John (Jack) Morrison on December 27, 1952. They moved to Hawthorne in 1955, and was a 57 year resident of Hawthorne. Elaine was always volunteering, she served as Den Mother for the Cub Scout troop and was a Brownie leader. She volunteered at the schools for many years, and was an active member of the PTA. She was honored as a volunteer of the year by city of Hawthorne. Elaine spent many years working in the snack bars at Wil-kon Little League and Hawthorne Middle League. She was a charter member of the Booster Club for Leuzinger High School and also worked in their their snack bar. She served on the Altar Guild for Olivet Lutheran Church. She belonged to Fuchsia Chapter # 425. Order of the Eastern Star and worked at all of their events, rarely missing a meeting. She spent many hours cooking dinners for the South Bay Masonic Lodge and helping set up for various functions. She also helped the Job's Daughter Bethel and the Rainbow Chapter. She helped out at almost every event that happened at the South Bay Masonic Center and was usually in attendance. Elaine,s many hours of volunteering earned her the Rob Morris Award in 1998. She loved children and dogs and and in later years was known to sit on her porch greeting the children and their parents as they walked to and from school. One of her greatest joys was to hear the children call out "Hi Mrs. Morrison!" or to play with the dogs that visiting neighbors would bring by. She was a fan of the L.A. Dodgers and loves to tell stories of attending high school with Don Drysdale. Elaine is survived by her husband, John; three children, Janet, John and Bob; five grandchildren, Randi, Beth, Thomas, Sherri and Robert and 8 great grandchildren, Hunter, Kelsey, Megan, Maddison, Ethan, Alison. Luciana and Rhiannon; a brother, Norman (Fuzzy) Prew; a niece, and a nephew; and many extended family members. She was loved by all. She was preceeded in death by her parents, Norman and Edna Prew; granddaughter, Keeli; and nephew, Norman. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to The Alzheimer's Foundation.
