Eleanor Moore Merrick of Manhattan Beach passed away on October 2, 2014.

Ellie was born in St. Paul, MN on July 14, 1929 to Gertrude Gamble and Charles Wesley "Dinty" Moore. She graduated from Central High School in St. Paul in 1947 and earned a BA in English Literature from Knox College in Galesburg, IL in 1951. She married George Boesch Merrick on September 1, 1951 in St. Paul, MN. They lived together in Manhattan Beach for 57 years, and celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary on September 1, 2012.

Ellie's passion was her family and making a happy and loving home. She and George raised three children, Charlie, Ellen, and Betsy. Ellie worked hard for the organizations she believed in: Pi Beta Phi (women's leadership) and Sandpipers (philanthropy). She held many positions in Pi Phi at local and national levels and was President of Sandpipers in 1966. She loved her many dear friends and with them played bridge and golf, and enjoyed book club.

Ellie had the singular gift of making the people around her feel special and loved. She was always the elegant lady, with perfect manners and grace.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life, George, and is survived by her children, Charles (Martha); Ellen Petrill (Larry); Elizabeth Jackson (Dan); her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and her brother-in-law, Dale Merrick (Millie) and nieces.
