Elizabeth Anne Thurber Obituary
Elizabeth Anne Thurber

Elizabeth Anne Thurber, known affectionately as "Betty" to her loved ones, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on January 13, 2012, with her family by her side. Betty was born in Louisville, Kentucky on January 21, 1946 to Frank Jr. and Mary Wiegel. Her early years were spent there and in Indiana and Ohio, until her family moved to Torrance in the mid-1950s. Betty graduated from South High School in 1964, and worked as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service for 37 years, until her retirement in 2003. Throughout her life she enjoyed bowling, going to the theater, having fun with her friends over dinner, traveling to beautiful places across the Western U.S. and pulling the handle of a slot machine. These past few years she loved getting her nails done, watching her favorite television shows, being a "mall rat" with her daughter, and relaxing at home with her family. Betty was a hard worker, a generous, loyal, and loving woman, and a devoted mother, sister, and friend. She will be greatly missed by her daughter and son-in-law, Kendra and Darin McClelland; her brother and sister, Jerry and Pat Wiegel; her ex-husband and friend, Chuck Thurber; her beloved grand dogs, Buddy and Daisy; and the rest of her family and dear friends. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her memory to the or the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Department at Providence Little Company of Mary Hospital in Torrance. A memorial service celebrating Betty's life will be held Friday, January 20 at 5:00 p.m. at Peninsula Community Church in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA.
