Elizabeth C. Scott, 98

A San Pedro resident for 67 years, Elizabeth C. Scott passed away December 5, 2014 surrounded by family. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service is planned for December 15, 11:00 am at The First Presbyterian Church, 731 Averill Avenue, San Pedro, California 90732. Betty was born on July 1, 1916 in Rock Valley, Iowa. She was the second of five children of Henry Benjamin Carter and Elinor Coffeen Carter. The family soon moved to Southern California where she grew up in Canoga Park, before moving to Pasadena. Betty was an excellent student and gifted athlete, winning the 1928 Los Angeles City Schools Tennis Championship. It was in Pasadena where she met the love of her life, Harry T. Scott whom she wed on July 22, 1939. They were married 55 loving years when Harry passed away in 1995. Betty lived a long, wonderful life which was centered on family and her faith in Christ. She and Harry traveled widely and had many, many friends. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, nurturing elementary school teacher for 28 years, active church member, PEO Sisterhood member for over 75 years, and a selfless friend to many with an extremely positive, enthusiastic attitude. Betty is survived by her two children, daughter Sharon Workman of Fountain Valley and her husband William; her son James H. Scott of Rancho Santa Fe and his wife Patricia; her sister Claire Shaver of Claremont; 5 grandchildren; Jana Ponder, Julie Norwood, Megan Scott, Henry Scott, Ellen Scott and 10 great-grandchildren.
