Elizabeth Olson Obituary
Elizabeth (Beth) Clark Olson

Beth Olson was born on September 20, 1917, in Trinidad, Colorado to Lotta Francis Hull and Clarence Wilbur Clark. She left this life on August 20, 2015, one month shy of her 98th birthday due to complications of old age.
As a young child, Beth lived with her parents on a remote cattle ranch near Trinidad, Colorado. Her father was a cattleman and her mother, a school teacher. In the early 1920's, they moved to San Francisco to work in the Hull family hotel business. In 1929, Beth, her parents and two siblings, moved to Madera County located in the San Joaquin Valley. She graduated from Madera Union High School in 1935 as a Valedictorian.
She attended the University of California at Los Angeles with help from her college savings, her parents, scholarships and aid from her mother's relatives. Beth contributed by raising turkeys in Madera. At UCLA, she was a member of the Kappa Delta sorority.
After graduating from UCLA with degrees in Sociology and Economics in 1939, she found a job as a social worker in the Madera County Department of Welfare. The California State Welfare Department then offered her a one year graduate scholarship at University of California at Berkeley. After completing her year at Berkeley, her interest in snow skiing led her to accept a job in Wallace, Idaho. This resulted in a Red Cross offer to attend the University of Chicago, where she earned a Masters degree in Medical Social Work. After working a year with the Red Cross, she continued her career at the Long Beach Veterans Hospital and then at the Los Angeles Children's Hospital.
Beth married Lloyd Henry Olson in December, 1946. Beth and Lloyd built their first home in the San Fernando Valley. They constructed to their second home in the Baldwin Hills area of Los Angeles, their third in Lake Arrowhead and rented their fourth while they built their fifth and final residence in Rolling Hills. Before her children were born, Beth took an active role in helping Lloyd found and develop Crenshaw Lumber Co.
Beth was an active tennis player and enjoyed skiing, gardening and traveling the world with her husband. She was known by her friends and family for her "Wholesome Olson's" (chocolate chip cookies), her pomegranate jelly and sorbet and a constant supply of oranges from her well tended orchard. She sat on the Board of Directors of the family business, Crenshaw Lumber Co., retiring after her two sons took full control of the company. Beth was an active member of St. Luke's Presbyterian Church and the League of Woman Voters.
Beth will be missed by her four children, Nancy Aston (Mark), Larry Olson (Adrienne), Lindsay Olson (Anita), Judy Calvy (Tom) and her eight grandchildren, Lauren, Emily, Ethan, Michael, David, Casey, Andrew and Tommy.
Services will be held September 12th at the St. Luke's Presbyterian Church, 26825 Rolling Hills Rd., Rolling Hills Estates at 3:00 pm. A celebration of her life will follow immediately afterwards at the Rolling Hills Country Club, 27000 Palos Verdes Dr. East, Rolling Hills Estates.
