Elsie Heikkila Rafter Obituary
Elsie Rafter, a 65 year resident of Hermosa Beach, California, passed away at her home on Friday, February 18, 2011. Born March 28, 1914 in Jersey City, New Jersey, she lived her childhood on Cape Ann, Massachusetts. Elsie attended Gloucester public schools earning the Sawyer medal for scholastic excellence and graduated with the class of 1931 from Gloucester High School. She went on to New York City to attend the Mount Sinai School of Nursing, graduating as a registered nurse on February 5, 1935. Elsie was very active in the South Bay community with the Kiwanis Wives, local PTA, and as a polling center volunteer. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 40 years local attorney, Case (Eric) Brodrick Rafter, Jr. She leaves daughters, Mary Fausett of Center, Texas and Helena Carney of Plain City, Utah; six grandchildren, Lewis Fausett, James Fausett, Richard, Fausett, Dale Ellen Carney, Janet M. (Kurt) Brooks, Evan B Carney; great grandchildren, Tanya Lay, Scott Fausett, Erika Fausett, Joel Fausett, Tabetha Steffek, Byron Themis, Billy Themis, and Cord Fountain; her cousin, Jon Wallenius (Nancy), who lived with Elsie and Eric while attending Mira Costa; sister, Elizabeth (Roger Cook) are the surviving local relatives. She has always enjoyed her home and appreciated her special 24th Place neighbors. Elsie will be missed by us all for her wit, wisdom, insight and love. Friends are invited to join the family in a Celebration of Her Life at her home on Sunday, February 27, 2011 from 1:00 to 4:00pm.
