Ernestine "Tina" Ivankovic

1932 - 2016

Ernestine "Tina" Ivankovic passed away to be by the Lord's side on December 8, 2016. Tina was born in San Pedro, California of Croatian parents, Marin and Maria Batina. In 1952, Tina met and married Valentine "Val" Ivankovic. They were married for 55 wonderful years until Val passed away in 2007. They had one daughter "Tina Marie", an attorney and partner at the law firm of Ford, Walker, Haggerty & Behar. Tina was not only a kind and caring person but she was a talented opera singer, a soloist in the Mary Star of the Sea Croatian Choir and sang at many doings in San Pedro and Los Angeles including the Hollywood Palladium. She also played in the Croatian Tamburitza Orchestra. Like her husband Val, she was very involved in the Mary Star of the Sea Parish and previously served as President of the Velike Gospe Society. Due to her husband's career, she moved all over the Country but always considered San Pedro her home. She was known as a gourmet cook and talented seamstress. In the 1960's she enjoyed owning a hair salon with her sister Millie. In 2009 she accompanied her family to New Hampshire where she was cared for by her daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter. Tina is survived by her daughter Tina Mangarpan, son-in-law Jeff Mangarpan and her pride and joy, granddaughter Brittany, step-granddaughter Kristina Gillis, Kristina's husband Shawn and their son Maxwell, her sisters, Mary Ann Lovrich, Millie Chor, Diane Spinosa, brother-in-law Sal Spinosa, brother Antone Batina and sister-in-law Rose and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother Nick. Her funeral Mass will be Friday January 6, 2017 at 10:30 am at Mary Star of the Sea Parish. There will be visitation at McNerney's Mortuary, 570 West Fifth Street in San Pedro from 5 pm to 7 pm on January 5, 2017 with Rosary service at 7 pm.
