Eugene Harold Richter

Eugene Harold Richter, (aka Rick), of Joshua Tree, passed away April 30, 2012. He was born on October 16, 1933, the son of Elaine and Oscar Richter, and grew up in State Center, Iowa. He joined the Navy in 1952 and served his country for 4 years. Rick married Joan Barthel in 1955 and they had 4 children. Rick started working for the Daily Breeze newspaper when it was located at the Redondo Beach waterfront, and continued working for the Daily Breeze for 27 years. He was dock foreman for 15 of his 27 years, and managed the distribution of advertising "shopper" products throughout his career. Rick had many side jobs, such as selling boxes of steaks, fireworks, shoes, and operating a snack bar and bait shop off the Hermosa Beach Pier with his wife Joan. He was a resourceful man who taught his children to work hard and be careful with money. Rick is survived by his ex-wife, Joan; and their 4 children: Gerry Richter and wife Brenda of Santa Barbara, Karl Richter and wife, Delores of Oregon, Pam Barton and husband, Mike of Redondo Beach and Chris Richter and wife, Adrienne of Florida. Rick is also survived by their 3 grandchildren: Lily and Bryan Barton and Haven Richter. In his retirement, Rick loved the desert with the quiet and solitude. He enjoyed fishing, watching sports on TV and riding his ATV with his beloved dog, Duke, along "Rick's Route". There are no services, but please post your memories of Rick
