After college, Vangie moved to San Francisco to begin a career in international banking at Bank of America, where she met her husband, Paul. Here she started a career as a middle school teacher and later a counselor helping students prepare for college.
Vangie adored her community of Palos Verdes, where she lived for over 35 years, and was always willing to lend a helping hand. During this time, she served as a board member for several organizations including: Peninsula Committee Los Angeles Philharmonic, Trojan League of the South Bay, Las Amigas de las Lomas of Orthopedic Hospital and the Colleagues of the Assistance League. Vangie had a passion for writing and published two books; "The Rain Must Fall" and "Mind your Chopsticks", a humorous account of her life raising a family in Asia. She was also a multiple contributor to the Daily Breeze "My Turn" column where she shared her incredible sense of humor. In addition to writing, Vangie loved reading, traveling around the world, music and most of all, spending time with family and friends.
Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, cousin and friend, Vangie is survived by her husband of 51 years, E. Paul Maynard and her children: Evangeline Cumming of Santa Clarita, Ryan Maynard of Palo Alto and Paul Maynard of Pasadena.
