Flora Gonzalez, age 88, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2016 surrounded by her family in Vancouver, Washington. She was born on May 6, 1928 to Guillermo and Dolores Gonzalez in Los Angeles, California. The family later moved back to Mexico City due to the Great Depression in the United States. At a young age in Mexico City, she was discovered and performed as an extra in the Mexican cinema. She attended Escuela Comercial Administrativa and graduated in 1947. She and her family returned to Los Angeles, California that same year. There she met her future husband Heriberto Montoya. They married on June 9, 1951. Flora loved to host and entertain at parties in her home and enjoyed gardening and sewing. She worked for Lockheed Aircraft International S.A. as a translator and was recognized in 1961 for her work on Project Bluejay. In 1993, she retired from the Bassett Unified School District after 16 years of service. She is survived by her daughter Lybia Elena Bunkley (husband Jack), daughter Elvia Montoya and son Hector Montoya. She has six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Eva Montoya from Carson, California and brother, Jose Antonio Gonzalez from Chula Vista, California. Rosary will be held at All Souls Mortuary in Long Beach on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at All Souls Mortuary Friday, October 7th at 11:00 a.m. Please sign the guest book at www.dailybreeze.com/obits.
