June 12, 1925 – January 28, 2019




Frances Lorraine Ruggera, age 93, went home to be with the Lord on January 28, 2019. She passed peacefully in her home with her husband by her side. Frances was born in Joliet, Illinois where she attended St. Joseph's Elementary School and Joliet Township High School. She graduated from St. Francis Xavier University in Chicago, Illinois with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and received her Registered Nurse (RN) license while at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. After moving to California she worked at the Sawtelle Veterans Hospital in West Los Angeles (now the West LA VA Hospital). She met the love of her life, Michael Ruggera, at a hospital party in 1949 and were married six months later and remained married for 69 years until her passing. After they moved to Inglewood she had two sons, Michael Jr, and Phillip. Later they moved to Torrance in 1964 where she worked at the Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Harbor City and Torrance Memorial Medical Center. Later they moved to Rancho Palos Verdes in 1973, where she and her husband lived until her passing. She loved reading, traveling, and volunteering as a docent for the Los Angeles County Museum of Art where she served as president of the docent group for one year. She is survived by her husband Michael, son Phillip and his family including 1 grandchild, Rachel. A viewing followed by a memorial service will be held at Holy Cross Mortuary in Culver City on March 2, 2019 at 10 AM.
