Frank T. Suryan Obituary
Frank T. Suryan, Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, set sail on his next great adventure on Monday, January 3, 2011. Frank was born August 6, 1932 in Anacortes, Washington to Frank and Anna Thomas Suryan, both Croatian immigrants. After finishing high school in Anacortes, Frank joined the U.S. Army. He served in the Korea Conflict 1953 - 54. After the service he settled in Anacortes where he met and married (1956) his first wife, Frances Earnst. They moved to San Pedro in 1958. He was a commercial fisherman for over 40 years. Frank is survived by his wife of 30 years, RoseMary "Cookie" Suryan; children: Debra (Jon) Jenny of Mission Viejo; Frank (Teresa) Suryan, Jr. of Huntington Beach; Cheryl Garcia of San Pedro; Shelli (Gary) Cootes of Rancho Palos Verdes; and Robert Katnich of San Pedro; grandchildren: Rebecca, Michael and Samantha Jenny; Kasey, Kyle and Kody Suryan; Megan and Jake Stanford; Chanel and Sean Garcia; Nycole, Dominique and Danielle Cootes; Carter Katnich and great-grandchild Joseph Garcia; one sister: Mary Lou Halliday of San Pedro. He was predeceased in death by his parents and his son Steven Suryan. Frank's two "first loves" were his family and the sea. His second loves were traveling with Cookie; cooking and spending time in the desert . . . usually with lots of family, and friends. He was a member of the Elks Lodge of Anacortes, and the Dalmatian American Hall and D.B. Club of San Pedro. The family wishes to thank Dr. Ivana Dujmovic of Dubrovnik, Croatia; Dr. Herbert Webb; Dr. Joel Holtz; Dr. Randolph "Randy" Sherman of Cedars Sinai; Dr. Steve Shea and entire emergency and ICU doctors and staffs at Little Company of Mary San Pedro for their care and caring. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Boys and Girls Club of LA Harbor, 1200 S. Cabrillo Ave., San Pedro, CA 90731 or Better Breathers Club, c/o Little Company of Mary, 1300 West 7th, San Pedro, CA 90732. A Funeral Mass will be Friday, January 7, 2011 at 12 o'clock noon at Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 877 West 7th Street, San Pedro, California with burial at Green Hills Memorial Park, Rancho Palos Verdes.
