George R. Hernandez

George R. Hernandez passed away surrounded by his family on March 10, 2016. He was born in Wilmington, California, on February, 22, 1928, to Andrea and Celso Hernandez.He grew up in Tijuana, B.C., and at the age of 14 he returned to the United States. At the age of 17 he joined the U.S. Navy. He worked in construction until his retirement. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Dora, and their three children, Cecile Valdovino, Susan Hall (Kevin), Mike (Shana) Hernandez, and his sister, Eduarda Hernandez. He also leaves behind 9 grandchildren, George Valdovino, Andrea (Michael) Troscan, James (Monica) Hall, Jessica Hall, Andrea (Jason) Daser, Christopher Hernandez, Adrienne (Ruben) Munoz, William Salcido III, Mikey Hernandez Jr. (# 11), 10 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and God Children. A viewing will be held on Thursday, March 17, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and a Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m., at McNerney's Mortuary, located at 570 W. 5th St., San Pedro. A Requiem Mass will be held on Friday, March 18, at 11 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, located at 575 W. O'Farrell St., San Pedro, CA, with internment at Green Hills Memorial Park. George was a proud member of the San Pedro Elks Lodge 966, where he served as an officer for many years. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in George's name to the San Pedro Elks Rebuild Fund, located at 1748 Cumbre Dr., San Pedro, CA 90731.
