Georgette Avoian was born in Chicago, Illinois December 26,1935 to Alice and Harry Donigian and passed away December 29, 2016 in Torrance, California. At the age of 10, Georgette and her family moved to Riverside, CA then made their way to Los Angeles sometime later where she took a job with Prudential. Through an Armenian club she belonged to Georgette met and married Albert Avoian. They made their way to Torrance, CA where they had and raised their three children.

Georgette, a devoted wife and mother is preceded in death by her middle child Christopher, and is survived by Albert (her husband), Elizabeth (her eldest child) and youngest daughter Sandra (whom she was the closest to) and grandchildren David and Erica.

While raising her children and maintaining the family home, Georgette was active in the Torrance Rotary Anns, Victor Elementary School PTA, Girl Scout Cookie Chairman for 2 years, and along with daughter Sandi, was a member of the So.Bay Impact Republicans. Along with holding the office of President of both the PTA and the Torrance Rotary Anns, Georgette also held other board positions in each club. In her younger years, Georgette enjoyed League Bowling at PV Bowl and took up golf. Georgette played golf with her husband Al and her girlfriends at Rolling Hills Country Club to which they were members of. Georgette and her husband belonged to the Harbor Area Torrance Model A Club where she made many good friends and went on many fun trips.

Georgette enjoyed watching sports which included basketball, football and the L.A. Dodgers, her favorite baseball team. Besides watching the Dodgers on TV, she loved going to the ballpark with her daughter Sandi to see the games live. For the last two seasons they purchased mini-plan packages. Her favorite food at the park was the Wetzel dog and her favorite player was Yasiel Puig.

No matter where she was or what club or organization she was a part of Georgette touched the lives of many. Her warm heart, personality, charm and sense of humor endeared her to many. And with that, she will be greatly missed by many. Shortly after her 81st birthday, Georgette lost her battle with lung issues on December 29th. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Monday January 9, 2017 at Rice Mortuary in Torrance, CA. from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm. The Vigil Recitation will be at 7:00 pm. A Mass in her honor will be celebrated at St. James Catholic Church in Redondo Beach, CA. on Tuesday January 10 at 10:00 am. with a reception following. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Georgette Avoian to The Little Sisters of The Poor.
