Gil Eberhard Obituary
Gil Eberhard passed away at the age of 77 on July 16, 2010 at home with his beloved wife, Mary Lou, by his side. Gil was born on August 19, 1932 in Anaheim, California. At the age of 17, Gil's parents moved to Redondo Beach. He attended Redondo Union High School his senior year and was a standout athlete in football, basketball and baseball. After serving his country in the Army for four years, he attended California State University Los Angeles where he received his bachelor's degree. Shortly thereafter, he received his master's degree from Pepperdine University. After college, Gil embarked on a career as an educator/coach. He taught mathematics at Palos Verdes High School since its inception in 1961 until its closure in 1991. In 1966, Gil became the varsity baseball coach and during those 25 years, his teams compiled 332 victories and 8 league titles. In the 1980s, he also served as co-coach of the sophomore football team where his teams amassed a 96-4 record during a ten-year period. Gil was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Lou; his two sons, John (Cindy) and Steve (Kelly); and a daughter, Judi Boudreau (Mike); as well as his four grandchildren, Kristi, Brian, Dalton and Peyton. Gil Eberhard loved life. He lived each day to the fullest. He was known for his quick wit and sense of humor. More importantly, Gil was humble, loyal, honest and derived satisfaction from giving to others. During retirement, Gil enjoyed golfing and his trips with his wife, family and friends to Lake Tahoe and Laughlin. He will be missed by all who had the privilege to know him. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 31, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 301 Avenue D in Redondo Beach.
