Grace Hall Obituary
Grace Hall

Grace Hall, born September 22, 1916, Grace endured dementia, macular degeneration and hearing loss during her last years, yet she retained her sense of humor and independent spirit. She learned frugality during the Great Depression and flourished afterwards in simple modernity. Her vivid stories from her childhood in Santa Ana carried us all to a quieter, more serene time. She treasured her Manhattan Beach community and loved her family. Grace gave generously to others, yet never thought of her own needs. Grace and Al were members of the Brethren Church where Grace assisted other women in the church preparing meals on wheels. Al and Grace created their own custom Christmas cards, sometimes custom printed photographs or hand cut paper shapes out of pieces of brightly colored paper. They hosted special needs children on the weekends. Even during the warmest summer days during her last months, Grace could be seen trundling down her street with cane in one hand and caregiver in the other, or sitting on her favorite bench in front of her home enjoying the pedestrian movement and occasional hellos. Grace walked the length of her neighborhood block several days before she passed for the sheer pleasure of it. She married Alvin Hall July 27, 1940, enjoying 48 years of marriage before his passing. Her older sister, Ruth Loring, preceded her passing and then Dorothy Linn. She leaves behind three sons, Keith (Bette), Tom (Monica) and Bert (Doretha Dubois) Hall; her grandchildren, Janice McIntire from Keith and Bette; Erik (Jen) Hall and Marina (Joshua) Drawbaugh from Tom and Monica Hall. Grace was 98 years old, one month on her passing, October 22, 2014. Please sign the guest book at www.dailybreeze.com/obits.
