Gunther W. Buerk, age 79, suffered from Alzheimer's and died from a massive stroke at Redlands Community Hospital on February 2, 2015. Born September 27, 1935 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Eugene and Kate Buerk, he attended school in Germany and graduated from UC Berkeley with a PhD. On December 19, 1967, he married the love of his life, Michele Cauvin. He lived in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA and worked at Garrett AiResearch and Union Oil for a number of years and later started a brewery at Alpine Village, Fullerton Hofbrau and Waterfront Brewery and Restaurant. Gunther will be especially remembered for being the former Mayor of Rancho Palos Verdes in 1976 -1977 and founding council member from 1973-1980. He also served as Chair to the Citizens' Economy & Efficiency Commission County of Los Angeles from 1991-1997. He was a loving husband and devoted father. Survivors include son, Axel Buerk; and daughter, Cecile Verhofstadt; and granddaughter, Michele Zdrazil. Gunther was preceded in death by his wife, Michele.
