Obituary Condolences

Hal Simmons, a 38 year resident of Torrance passed away on Friday, March 4, 2011 from heart failure. Born in Chelsea, Massachusetts, Hal was 87 years old when he died. After two years in college, he went into the United States Army and served in the South Pacific. Upon returning home, he completed his college studies and received his degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His work years were spent as a Metallurgical Engineer. His last place of employment was Garrett Corporation (now Honeywell) from which he retired in 1986. Hal was a fun-loving person who enjoyed spending time at the fitness center and working as a volunteer for the city of Torrance. He was an avid member of Omnilore's writing and hiking groups. He thoroughly enjoyed people and had many, many friends. Hal was preceded in death by his brother, Leon Simmons of Massachusetts; and his sister, Arlene (Julian) Fine. Hal is survived by his wife, Muriel; daughter, Anne Matsumura of Salinas, California; son, Robert (Debra) Simmons of Beaverton, Oregon; four grandchildren; and was loved by numerous dear friends and family members in California and on the East Coast. Burial will be at Hillside Memorial Park at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your charity of choice.
